Adding Videos

Embedding Videos in the RCE

The Canvas Rich Content Editor allows you to add videos to your Pages, Assignments, Quizzes, or Discussions. You can add:

  • Online video from YouTube, Vimeo, or other sources
  • Your own recording using your webcm
  • Video file uploads in these formats:
    • 
MOV – Apple QuickTime
    • 
AVI – Digital Video Format
    • WMV – Windows Media

    • MP4 – Digital Video Format


You can also use Studio to enhance videos with time-based comments or quiz questions. Studio video quizzes enter students' scores in the Gradebook just like regular quizzes.

To add a video:

  1. Click Edit on a Page, Assignment, etc.
    The Rich Content Editor will appear.
  2. Click the Media icon. The Upload/Record Media button in the Rich Content Editor toolbar.
  3. Select Upload/Record Media.
    The Upload Media dialog box appears.

  4. Click Record to create your own video using your webcam.
  5. Click the rocket or text to upload a video file from your computer, or drag and drop a file onto it.
  6. Click Submit.
    The video will be displayed on your page.

While you can easily add any video from the Internet to your course, we do need to be mindful of violating copyright.
