Understanding Component One

1. Complete a Standard Organizer for each content standard. This is described below.In order to certify, your Component One will be scored against certain National Board content standards from your certificate area. It is critical that you have read and analyzed these standards. We offer two ways:

2. Complete graphic organizers for the questions based on your content standards. That is described on the next page in a screen recording.

Standard Organizer instructions: One way to fully understand your content standards is to complete a Standard Organizer for each standard being assessed in your Component One. To know which standards are being assessed go to your Component One instructions. Complete a Standard Organizer Download Standard Organizer

 for each of your Component 1 standards. If you haven't already, review how to do this here.

Directions that are explained in the video:

1. Download your Standard Organizer, which is linked above.

2. Print out your Standards so you can write on them OR download them and annotate them.

3. Enter the Standard Name and  Number in the title.

4. Underline verbs and phrases that reflect your practice. Write specific examples in the margins. (Or you can copy and paste these into the middle column or your Standard Organizer.)

5. Highlight those phrases that you think you need to develop or that you don't understand. (Or you can copy and paste these into the last column or your Standard Organizer.)
